LUBBOCK, Texas -- Ten students from the South Plains showed their steers in front of the entire San Antonio Rodeo.

Hundreds of students across Texas bring the steers they've spent months raising to the San Antonio Stock Show. Once the Champion and Reserve Champion of each breed were selected, the students and steers were walked into the rodeo arena for the entire audience to see. Every kid strives for this moment, and this year the largest group from the South Plains experienced it.

The students with the champion steers sell their animals the day after they present them to the rodeo audience. A majority of the steers sold for $10,000 or more, but the Grand Champion Steer, shown by Aniston Floyd from Denver City, sold for $140,000. Collectively, our 10 students earned over $200,000 from their sales.
